“The Charming Cryptids podcast”
A dating advice column talk show
Subject and content: I wanted to brand and produce merchandise for a podcast. The podcast format would be a dating advice column hosted by three cryptids. Half ARG with fan participation and an ongoing B-plot carried by the hosts of the podcast (Mothman, Big foot, and the Jersey Devil.)

An overarching theme of “otherness” made me consider a retro design as I want to emphasize in the design the sense that these hosts are from a different point in “reality” then the listener. The strangeness of monsters giving dating advice to average humans punctuated by familiar aesthetics and relatable demeanor of each of the unfamiliar hosts.
Stylistically I approached this project with a midcentury modern aesthetic with a bright and vibrant color palette. The characters are cute and satirical, and have a paper cut out feel to them. I wanted the illustrations to be a little more complicated than the overarching aesthetic.
Key influences: Cryptids, Mothman, the lochness monster, Welcome to nightvale
Proposed methodology: By creating an appropriate logo, and design materials to legitimize the project. The design series would include, posters, an itunes cover, a website for the podcast to live on, promotional materials, Logo, business cards, and tickets for live shows.
My strategy is to assume the podcast is successful and create a system of branding that fit a stylized and friendly aesthetic that offset or contrasts the subject matter of the podcast.
Podcasts sometimes publish under a partnered network of programming. Such as the Max Fun network. It is a good way to gain popularity as a show, but The Charming Cryptid Podcast will not be pitched to a network to retain full creative license.
